About Debbie Severin
Debbie’s work is grounded in a simple belief: when children have time, space, and open-ended materials, they reveal what they know—and who they are becoming. A former Director of a progressive Los Angeles preschool, Debbie has spent her career supporting young children and their families through play-based, whole-child practice, with unit blocks and other open-ended materials at the center of her approach.
Most recently, through her work with the Caroline Pratt Center, Debbie has focused on supporting educators as they strengthen their practice with open-ended materials—helping teachers shape the environments, routines, and language that allow more children to enter, sustain, and deepen meaningful play.
